School Board
As the chief stewards of a district’s schools, school board members set the standards for an entire school community. Whether elected or appointed, school board members must therefore understand the importance of making sure those they represent are seen and heard in meaningful, responsible ways.
As a school board official, you know first hand the constant need to balance competing needs. Your questions, concerns, and opinions frame the educational goals and shape the priorities of your district’s operations.
How democratic do you think schools should be? Do you agree with the idea that children should be seen and heard? How will you strike the right balance between individual freedoms and group structures – both on your board and throughout the school community? And how do you ensure that all of your constituent’s voices are valued, including the voices of students’?
