Students
The Five Freedoms Project believes all people should be seen and heard, including students — of every age. But does that mean that everyone can say and do whatever they want, whenever they want?
Realizing the promise of the First Amendment means paying attention to balancing the rights of one with the rights of many. The First Amendment’s significance shouldn’t only be about our individual rights; it should also be about our collective responsibility to guard the rights of others — especially those with whom we most deeply disagree.
What’s your take on YOUR five freedoms? Where do you see those rights being useful — maybe even essential — in your life? Where (and when) do you wish you had more of them? What do you think people need to learn in order to own and live up to the promise and responsibilities of the Five Freedoms? Why do you think we sometimes fail to do so?
